People argue that there are a lot of things wrong with our mainstream social media (instagram, wechat moments, X, etc.). There indeed are. It might be hard to change a platform. But we can build our own. I started a community called OpenLearn. We are a group of lifelong learners who commit to using self-education as a force to change ourselves and the world. We believe in the decentralization of education and the power of self-directed learning & learning in public. We would like to redefine the future of learning and reshape the internet for deep learning. We are looking for more deeply-commited learners who want to collectively build a internet space and community for learning and sharing. Providing an alternative to social media, optimized for deep learning & sharing **Macro-principle:** solve _one_ real problem for a narrowly-defined tribe and make it easier for them to solve it _on your instance_ than anywhere else. Everything else is execution details. One Real Problem -- social media not optimized for the sharing of deep thinking & knowledge Tribe / Cult -- lifelong learners who believe in self-education and learning in public --- Social media is broken. It optimizes for shallow interactions, virality, and dopamine-driven engagement, leaving little room for deep thinking, sustained learning, and meaningful knowledge sharing. We are a group of global high school students -- committed life long learners who believe in self-education and learning in public. We hope to fix this by building our own internet space -- a place where deep learning, thinking, sharing, and interactions are made possible. We believe in the decentralization of education -- Education shouldn't be monopolized by schools only -- each one of us should be empowered to educate ourselves and make changes. We believe in the power of self-directed learning & learning in public. Ultimately, we hope to redefine the future of leducation and reshape the internet for deep learning.
