Defitnion: the education of education Traditional education, or education in the narrow sense, is *how to do something* -- how to write an essay, how to evaluate an argument, how to solve a equation, how to use a model to analyze a situation. Meta-education, on the other hand, is *what, when, and why to do things*. It's about understanding how knowledge relates with the very foundation of our existence and the world we inhabit, and critically examining our learning -- great, we can write a Paper 1, but what we should write about, and to what ends? Ok, we can use the demand-supply model to explain the price fluctuation, but where might this model not work? How can we design new models to explain the crazy new things we are witnessing every day? In a word, meta-education is learning how to learn and understanding why we learn. The real education must rise above itself, and become able of referring to, examining and understanding itself, just as metaphysics was supposed to be “above” physics.
